My Amazing Moment In Korea - Robots!

Boy, I can write almost everything that I experienced during my time in Korea, but since this page can only hold so many letters and pictures, maybe I should tell you about my experince with my friends and teachers from Budi Mulia Dua International High School, for Miss Anggit from www.kfriends.net as well as the teachers from Gongs!n (www.gongsinID.com) during our tour to the Seoul Robotics Meister High School. The 'Meister' in it means 'Master', since this vocational high school requires high skill in order to graduate and succedd, but it pays off!

Aw, look at that cute lil' robot!

This trip is during our second day in Korea (Wednesday, 13 November 2013). We only just checked in the hotel the night before, so some of us then were so sleepy!, but we had to depart at morning (around 8 o' clock if I remember). We arrived to the school @ 10 o' clock, and when we got out from the bus, it was freezing! Good thing I remembered to bring a jacket and sweater (so tight but oh so worth it :) ).

We were greeted by not just the principal, but also two exchange teachers from Indonesia! Glad to see some of our countrymen who were not part of our group! They gave us a presentation about how their school works, their achievements, and their plans for the future. Most of you think presentations are boring, but this time is an exception, since it's about ROBOTS! And they also gave us a few snacks and their guidebook about the school. Awesome!

After the presentation is over, we went on a tour of the school. Since that day is schoolday there would be many classes where the students would be studying, so we had to walk very carefully, yet still some of us in our group liked to run to their destination instead of using stealth tactics! Not that it bothers me, of course ;)

In this room, we get to see several student-designed robots in action! The first one is a wheeled robot that can detect black lines in the ground, and move only in that lane and not stray anywhere, but that's not all; it can detect collision so it won't run into a wall and get stuck! Pretty neat!

The next type of robot, are a group of robots that do dance moves when they are given a song! Look at them waving their hands and shakin' their legs! Groovy!

For this next room, we get to observe how students program the AI of their robots, which only have a simple pincer-like hand for grasping objects. Coincidentally, their programming is being reviewed by a teacher that day, and we get to see some of the robots struggling trying to hold a cup, with only one or two of them managing to succeed!

Finally, the last room has robots that can fly! Of course flying in-doors would be ridiculous, so they took them outside. There is this one robot that intrigues me:

They say that if looks could kill, then this thing certainly could! Good thing it wasn't! This robot has a total of six rotors in a snowflake-shaped frame. It has a camera underneath it to observe its surroundings (bolted carefully to ensure it doesn't fall off during flight!). They also have three other, smaller and less scary looking flying robots to complement the six-armed machine of doom! Let's see them in action!

Well thats it! It was a fun trip, though I will be missing a lot of the people that I've met during the trip, especially Mr. Rooney Kim (our tour guide), he's such a fun guy! Thanks to everyone; my family, my friends, my teachers, Miss Anggit from www.kfriends.net, and the Gongs!n team (www.gongsinID.com) for making this trip possible and fun!

Hope we meet again soon...
